Jesus

"The truth of the matter is that I am motivated by scholarly interest to learn as much as I can about Jesus, but at the same time being a practicing Jew and not a Christian, I am independent of any church. I readily admit, however, that I personally identify myself with Jesus' Jewish weltanschauung, both moral and political, and I believe that the content of his teachings and the approach he embraced have always had the potential to change our world and prevent the greatest part of evil and suffering."

I also like Jesus' weltanschauung.
I agree that His ways and teachings do have the power to change the world.
What if all of His followers fully embraced becoming like Christ? Imagine how great that could be.

My question is what if everyone tried to be more like Jesus, whether they were believers or not simply because they liked him. Is that enough? Or is trusting in Him as our savior what is really important and we try to be obedient understanding that we will fail and being thankful for His mercy. I recently heard an Elton John quote where he talked about how much he liked what Jesus stood for and wanted to be a better person because of Him, yet in the same sentence he said that he also thought Jesus would have made an amazing gay man. So what are we concerned with? People being better people or people embracing salvation? Yet I completely agree with Jesus' weltanschauung and want to embrace it and I pray that all believers do the same. I just want to know where the real change takes place. Thanks.

I believe Jesus is concerned with making us "new creations" and then meaningful change takes place. Therefore, the best type of change is change that comes from God's transforming power in our lives.

The fine line is found in the millions of people from all walks of "Christian" faith who still do not contribute to a better world by following the ways of Jesus. We claim to be new creations but often look like all other creations. God called us to be His image to the earth.... when this is done I believe God is honored and I also believe our world is better for it.
